Here is our 1987 Honda CRX Si.
Out of the factory it comes with a 97 HP power plant...Its current power we
don’t know, but this car is surprisingly fast! She’s a nimble car that can get
you through the corners faster than the rest of the cars on the track. What you
lose in straight-line acceleration, you gain in maneuverability and compact
size. The theme of the car is based on the submarine from the cult classic
movie “A Life Aquatic”.
Purchased:
From a military gear head in San Jose. He was selling it because he was moving to a place with no garage.
Price: $300.00 (we have the bill of sale to prove it)
Condition:
Well… At least she ran when we purchased her. She had been completely gutted out, but kept in street worthy condition. She even passed smog. The car came with aftermarket suspension, half complete roll cage and a beat up racing seat that needed installation. Most of the safety items were purchased separately. Looking back we may have spent too much money on them, but it was our first car, so there is a learning curve. Unfortunately, the car’s years (and miles) had caught up to it and the cylinders had pretty low compression. Like any cheap car, it could have been worse.
Drivability:
This is a great car to drive at any skill level. Being front wheel drive with a Kate moss stature, it’s tough to lose control. Just go easy on your braking, as she gets a little slippery when the back wheels loose grip. A good tip is to just keep your foot down and the front end will pull you anywhere you want to go. She’s reliable as any Honda should be and is very easy on gas. This means you’ll spend less time in the pits and more time on track.
She’s a great car that has been our go-to for all events. Get ready to have fun in this one!
